The coaching element is a combination of all the other parts (Consultancy/Training/Support) but it evolves as the relationship grows, and time spent with the client increases.
The initial meetings are largely spent understanding the needs of the client, and providing the all important quick fixes, to plug the most immediate and problematic issues. However as the programme progresses, the emphasis shifts towards the development of the business owner(s) themselves, so that they learn all the key parts of running a business, and they start to answer their own questions before turning to others. The relationship between business owner and coach grows whereby the aim is to develop the kind of friendship in which the tough issues are not avoided, and when things need to be said, however uncomfortable they may be, they are. In this way the trust builds, and the knowledge that the coach is firmly on your side gives you the confidence to make decisions and grow the business.
Coaching is about making you do all the things that you don’t want to do, but you know if you learn how to do them, and develop your skills, they will vastly enhance your ability to run a profitable enterprise. Coaching doesn’t let you off the hook easily, it doesn’t let you make excuses, but it does ensure that you take control of your business, and make it work for you, so you can get what you want out of life.
We have recently completed a number of training sessions with Business Life, and were fortunate to get the government grant ‘train to gain’ with them. For a moderately small and busy family company it is always difficult to take a step forward with training, so taking the time to learn new techniques and systems has been really worthwhile.
